PBS · How your score works

Simple signals. Visible reasoning.

Green, Yellow and Red help you orient. The value comes from understanding the supporting answers, what remains uncertain and what action is worth taking.

What we examine

Direction and decisions; customers and offer; cash and economics; delivery and quality; people and accountability; measurement and learning; controls and obligations; resilience and next-stage fit. Questions apply to a solo operator or team, and to evidence from a pilot or current operations. Sector-specific obligations still need appropriate specialist review.

How your score works

  1. Each question has four observable practice descriptions, scored 0–3. Unknown answers receive no invented value. Each area’s score is its answered points divided by its possible answered points. The overall score gives equal weight to the eight areas and is shown only when each has at least one answer.
  2. An area is Red below 45; Yellow from 45 to below 75, or if incomplete; Green from 75 only when all its questions are answered. Grey means no information. These cutoffs are PBS scoring rules. They have not been proven to predict performance or show how you compare with other businesses.
  3. Overall Red means an area is Red or you report an urgent current risk. Green requires every area Green, every practice answer present and all four current risks explicitly answered No. Otherwise the position is Yellow; no practice answers and no urgent risk means insufficient information. A high average cannot hide a Red area.
  4. Records you name are references, not verified evidence. We show how many questions you answered, how many risks you clarified and which records you named. Those records have not been independently checked. No revenue band, company size, entity form or text length adds points.
  5. Suggested actions come from the specific weaker answers you selected. They are possible explanations and starting points for a plan. Choose who is responsible, record where you are now, set a target and choose a review date; confirm whether a change actually helped. Completing a task does not automatically improve your score.

What the colors mean

Green supports investigating the next commitment; it does not mean “safe to scale” or a funding approval. Yellow calls for a focused improvement or missing information. Red calls for prompt attention to the identified issue. The screen does not predict failure, certify compliance or prove the cause of a business problem.

Research informing the design

PBS uses original questions and rules. It is not certified by, licensed as, or affiliated with these organizations. We studied their published descriptions, rather than copying questionnaires or scoring systems.

What still needs to be checked

The scoring calculations have been tested, but that does not prove that the advice predicts business results. Before claiming the service matches expert consulting, RPE needs independent business-specialist reviews and testing across business types and stages. It must also check consistency, customer usefulness, and secure payment and delivery. PBS does not claim to be the market leader or guarantee results.

Your information
